Tura, Feb 9: Tura MDC and BJP candidate for South Tura, Bermard N Marak on Thursday reiterated that the BJP was not against Christians or any religion even as he said that there is no substance to make such an allegation against the party.
“BJP is not against Christian or any religion. BJP is against corruption like a true christian should be. The manifesto of BJP gives equal opportunities to all sections of the society namely cast, creed, religion, culture and tribes. It is under this foundation that the party has been able to reach out to every person, every voter, every common man within the community. The programmes and objectives of the BJP Government in Delhi are designed to cater to all the citizens of the country, citizens of the state, urban and rural irrespective of their caste, creed or community. In this regard, the BJP Government has been able to attain success in all fronts and with all programmes especially the welfare programmes for the poor and the backward communities. With this background, there is no scope to deviate from its goal and objective which has been enlisted in the manifesto and the whole approach is to ensure development reaches out to all,” the Tura MDC said in a statement.
Bernard cited the example of Nagaland which despite having a BJP run government, there had been no confrontations among the people with regard to the matter in any part of the state.
“It shows that the party does not interfere into the lifestyles, culture which includes food habits of the people of Nagaland. In fact, the government of India has extended lots of projects through the Ministry of Minority Affairs to strengthen local infrastructure and traditional establishments in the state,” he added.
Marak said that in Meghalaya, where BJP is a coalition partner it was through the help of party functionaries that the state received various projects from the centre. “These projects and schemes have been distributed fairly without any bias. Never have beneficiaries been asked about their religion while receiving benefits from schemes,” he added.
Claiming that there was no record to show that people had reservations about the BJP, Marak pointed out that all its candidates are Christians who would all preserve and flag their issues before the centre.
