SHILLONG, Feb 21: NPP candidate from North Shillong, Ransom Sutnga wants the state government to come up with a land bank policy which will resolve twin issues with regard to investment and employment.
Explaining this idea, Sutnga on Tuesday said that under the policy, a land bank should be set up in the state since many companies from outside prefer not to invest in Meghalaya due to the peculiar land tenure system.
Identifying unemployment as a major problem in North Shillong as well as the state, Sutnga, former Executive Engineer of PWD (Buildings), said the proposed land bank would enable the government to acquire land, and according to him, different corporate including MNCs would start infusing capital in these banks.
“This would create employment for the youths of the state,” he stated.
It would also stop migration of talented youths from the state as a large chunk of local youths are going outside Meghalaya in search of livelihood, the NPP candidate contended.
The former PWD official also emphasised that law and order must prevail in the constituency.
According to him, there is a huge flow of cash in the constituency but argued that people are not induced by such practices.
