UDP flaunts strength in Nongpoh

Nongpoh, Feb 23: In what may be termed as a show of strength four days before the polling, thousands of United Democratic Party (UDP) workers attended the party’s rally today which started from Nongpoh via 20 Mile Pahammawlein and culminated at Umden playground.

Meralborn Syiem while speaking to a gathering of supporters Umden, breaks down and his supporters were silences for a while after some time to cheer him up and make him smile, while he recalled having been fulfilled one of the long pending dreams of the veteran politician and former MLA of Nongpoh, Dr DD Lapang to set up a Northern Ri Bhoi College at Umden for the benefits of the students.

Though Dr DD Lapang who is now with the National People’s Party (NPP) supporting the party’s candidate, Macdalyne Sawkmie Mawlong from Nongpoh constituency, yet, Meralborn Syiem express his gratitude to the veteran leader and with tears, said that he would always follow the footsteps that Lapang had taught him and also would pursue to fulfil all his pending dreams and aspirations for the people of Nongpoh constituency in particular and Ri Bhoi as a whole.

In his term of five years as an MLA, Meralborn Syiem shared that there were lots of downs which many of his supporters would not know, while stating that being in the opposition, a scheme which his people deserved to have been received, yet it was diverted to other constituencies just because he was not in the government.

Therefore, he appealed the people of Nongpoh constituency to elect him again this time as he is sure that the party will form the government and that many pending projects of Nongpoh constituency will be fulfilled and will have immense benefit to the people of the constituency and the Ri Bhoi as a whole.
