Shillong, March 5: An earthquake in Uttarakhand was reported in the Uttarkashi area on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday which was 2.5 on the Richter scale.

Although there was no damage reported from any part of the area, panic gripped as people had recently heard about the earthquake in Turkey and the magnitude of destruction thereafter.

As per reports, the earthquake in Uttarakhand struck at around 12.30 am after which people came out of their houses. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed that the epicenter of the earthquake was a forest in Siror village under Bhatwadi tehsil.

The initial jolt was followed by three tremors which all occurred within five to 10 minutes. The locals who were woken up by the quakes rushed to the streets in panic.

An earthquake of 2.4 magnitude had recently hit Uttarakhand’s Pauri Garhwal district. The state is struck by minor jolts every now and then.
