TURA, March 5: Raising strong opposition to the proposed move by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Amit Shah to attend the swearing in ceremony of the NPP on March 7, Tura MDC Bernard N Marak on Sunday said that Modi’s ‘Red card’ should continue to stand against the NPP as it had targeted the BJP during campaigns for the recent elections.
“Should Modi and Amit Shah attend Conrad Sangma’s swearing in after the NPP calling the BJP an anti-Christian and communal party? Modi and Amit Shah surely understand the discrimination and the pain BJP Karyakartas were made to go through by Conrad Sangma’s NPP in the last 5 years and during election. BJP karyakartas believe, Modi’s ‘Red Card’ against corruption still stands and that the Centre leaders will stand by it,” Marak said.
Alleging that the NPP stabbed the BJP and made people believe that it was an anti Christian and communal party, Bernard asked why Conrad Sangma is keen to form the government with the BJP by inviting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to his swearing in ceremony.
“Why should Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah be part of the swearing in ceremony? Begging to form the government with BJP reveals the truth that the anti Christian tag was a big “Lie”. The NPP took advantage of the ignorance and simplicity of the people to come to power. If NPP wants Modi and Amit Shah to be part of the swearing in, NPP should first apologize for calling Modi and Amit Shah as anti Christian leaders and for discriminating BJP Karyakartas,” the Tura MDC demanded.
Bernard added that the NPPT should also clarify to the public why it is keen to form the government with the BJP after making people believe that their faith and tribal rights will be ceased if it (BJP) comes to power.
“BJP was never against Christians nor against tribals but NPP targeted BJP with all these false allegations even to the extent of targeting every BJP karyakartas and their family members with threats to life. NPP even threw firecrackers on BJP families on result day provoking and insulting every Karyakartas,” he claimed.
Terming the NPP as nothing but a ‘parasite’, Bernard said that BJP State leaders should have consulted the Core Committee members and district leaders and other members before deciding to support the NPP.
“NPP is nothing but a parasite to BJP, eating away its well intended resources for its own survival. Some leaders focus on their benefits while the Karyakartas who toil day and night to strengthen the party remain unacknowledged as they face discrimination. Karyakartas are disappointed and saddened after knowing that the State leaders rushed to support NPP without acknowledging the fact that Karyakartas were mistreated and discriminated against by NPP workers making things very personal at grassroots level. Karyakartas worked hard against all odds to fight against corruption meted by NPP but very few leaders actually acknowledged the fact that people support BJP for being a non corrupt party,” he added.
