SHILLONG, March 7: Life for many on Tuesday was made easier by those that kept off the city roads following a recce on Monday ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit which had put the common people in a state of turmoil.
Unlike any other wonted weekday, most of the cabbies remained dormant until the PM had left to avoid the traffic congestion as was the case with many private vehicles.
“Why waste time in the (traffic) jam. I am better off staying off the road till the PM leaves,” said cabbie Mark Marsing.
As time went by, queries about the let-up in traffic were the most sought-after question. “What drama is this? They have won so form the government why trouble us. They are creating unnecessary problems for us,” said another driver Hari Prasad.
Any VVIP visit to the state is a grim reminder that the traffic problem of the state is real and there seems to be no solution in sight as of now.
