Police officials opened the lock on the school on Monday morning in the presence of Magistrate KT Nongsteng and Deputy Superintendent of Police, D Mawlein, Myntri Shnong Sundaystar Lyngkhoi, teachers and students of the school.
After opening the school, students and teachers were told by the officials to continue the teaching.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, Superintendent of Police GD Kharwanlang said the school was opened without any obstruction from any group. According to the SP, the officials told the group that if there was any issue, they could challenge the concerned party/person in the court of law but children should not be derived of their rights, which is education in this case.
It may be recalled that a group of people from Mawthawpdah village led by one Sparlindro Lyngdoh, had on March 6 closed down two schools in the village — Mawthawpdah Govt Lower Primary School and Mawthawpdah Presbyterian Deficit Upper Primary School.
The next day, top officials of the Education department from Shillong and Mawkyrwat had rushed to Mawthawpdah village to hold talks with the group, but only one of the two schools, Mawthawpdah Govt. LP School, was allowed to open.
