SHILLONG, March 21: Jowai’s waste management crisis continues to goad its citizens although measures are reportedly being taken to ease the problems.
The High Court of Meghalaya was hearing a PIL on Tuesday wherein the petitioner filed an affidavit incorporating photographs to indicate the present magnitude of the garbage problem in Jowai. After considering the affidavit, the High Court said it is hopeful that the Jowai Municipality is sensitive to the immense hardship faced by the local residents and business units.
The HC also stated that the Jowai Municipality, pursuant to the previous order of March 16, 2023, has reworked the schedule for garbage collection and has filed an affidavit in this regard.
“It is appropriate that the new schedule and the modified manner of implementation thereof be given some time to ascertain whether things have improved,” the Court said.
