SHILLONG, March 23: The Department of Social Work of St. Edmund’s College on Tuesday celebrated World Social Work Day by holding a panel discussion on ‘Respecting Diversity Through Social Action’.
According to a statement, the panel discussion was organised with an objective to “recognise the importance of community social action with respect to the rich diversity of our community and to understand the social change that occurs locally through community leadership in its diverse communities.”
“The panelists discussed the need to raise issues on public platforms and the need for joint action in solidarity to provide a voice to the voiceless. Issues of diversity and the politics of marginalisation were the main areas of discussion, which was echoed by the participants who attended the panel discussion,” the statement said.
It may be mentioned that the programme was attended by over 300 students and faculty members of the college.
As part of the celebration, a poster campaign was also organised and carried by the Social Work department students to propagate the message of supporting and contributing towards the rich diversity across different communities by creating a sense of security among the people through a joint social action.
