SHILLONG, March 26: PHE Minister and Williamnagar MLA, Marcuise N. Marak on Sunday rubbished the charges levelled against him of violating the model code of conduct and said that it was political vendetta by the opposite camp for losing out to him in last month’s electoral battle.
“I have not violated any model code of conduct. If there was anything, they should have complained during the elections. There is no question of violation of the model code of conduct,” Marcuise said.
Activist Tennydard Marak has petitioned the Election Commission of India to declare the Williamnagar election null and void and to hold fresh poll accusing Marcuise of blatantly violating the model code of conduct and indulging in corrupt practices.
Citing several cases of violation of model code of conduct by the Williamnagar representative Marcuise, Tennydard had demanded strictest action against the MLA saying that he should be punished by declaring his election to be null and void for adopting corrupt practices.
“They are complaining now because the Tennydard was supporting a candidate who lost the elections. I had defeated that candidate by more than 5,000 votes,” said Marcuise, adding, “The point is that he is unable to accept the defeat and is resorting to all this.”
