Tura, April 5: A new Garo body calling itself the Human Rights and Anti Corruption Youth Power of India on Wednesday urged the Ministry of Education in the state to follow the provision of Right to Education Act, 2009, the NCTE Act and notification and guidelines as well as the High Court order issued on October 5 last year while appointing teachers in the state.
The demand comes after the ministry of education during the last budget session informed the house that a total of 1200 temporary teachers would be appointed immediately which the organization said would be a violation of the NCTE norms issued by the Government of India as well as the High Court order dated.05.10.2022.
Questioning the announcement to appoint temporary teachers, the organization pointed out that there are hundreds of MTET passed candidates who can be appointed in their places.
“It is in the light of the NCTE issued by the Government of Meghalaya and the High Court order dated.05.10.2020 that about 2000 contractual teachers of entire of state of Meghalaya were terminated and removed from their service with an aim to appoint the candidates who have cleared the MTET. It is pertinent to mention herein that there are a number of MTET passed candidates waiting for the appointment but surprisingly till date a number of MTET passed candidates are still yet to be appointed,” it said.
Pointing out that terminating temporary teachers and reappointing them was illogical, the organization urged the ministry to strictly follow the existing provision giving special priority to MTET passed candidates while appointing teachers.
