SHILLONG, April 11: The KSU NEHU unit on Tuesday urged upon NEHU Vice Chancellor PS Shukla to fill up the 198 vacant teaching posts in the university which has been pending for about 10 years.
While speaking to reporters after meeting the VC, KSU NEHU unit president, Riches Malngiang, said that NEHU is yet to recruit professors, assistant professors and associate professors into the varsity’s main campus here.
According to him, the university is unable to admit around 1,200 research scholars due to the delay in appointment of teaching faculty. “It is the local students who are keen to take up research work,” Malngiang.
He, however, said the VC has assured them that 70% of the vacancies of the teaching faculties will be filled up by June.
“There is shortage of faculties in each and every department,” the KSU NEHU unit president said.
Meanwhile, Malngiang informed that the university has also failed to fill up 31 Group A statutory posts including Finance Officer and Registrar.
The university at the moment, he claimed, is asking the professors from various departments to teach as well to perform their duties of statutory officers. “But this has affected the overall functioning of the university since the professor who should be teaching in the classes is being asked to do the duties of the statutory officers. It is difficult for the professor to perform dual responsibilities at one time,” he added.
The KSU NEHU unit president said that the VC has assured to fill up the vacant posts of statutory officers by next month.
