Action against Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir for altercation during IPL match

Shillong, May 2: Following their heated exchange after the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Monday, May 1, at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir have been fined 100% of their match fees.

For violating the IPL Code of Conduct during the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match between Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow, Gautam Gambhir, the coach of the Lucknow Super Giants, has been fined 100% of his match money.

“Mr Gambhir admitted to the Level 2 offence under Article 2.21 of the IPL Code of Conduct,” an IPL media release stated.

For violating the IPL Code of Conduct during the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow, Virat Kohli has been fined 100% of his match money.

“Mr Kohli admitted to the Level 2 offence under Article 2.21 of the IPL Code of Conduct,” the release added.

After the game, Kohli and Gambhir got into a verbal altercation, and it took Amit Mishra, RCB captain, and LSG assistant coach Vijay Dahiya to calm things down. Later, Kohli was also spotted conversing with KL Rahul, the LSG captain.

Naveen-ul-Haq, a right-handed fast bowler for LSG, was also penalised 50% of his match money for violating the IPL’s Code of Conduct. After the game, at the customary handshake, Naveen and Kohli got into a contentious exchange.

“Lucknow Super Giants’ Bowler Naveen-ul-Haq has been fined 50 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.

“Mr Naveen-ul-Haq admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.21 of the IPL Code of Conduct,” the statement added.

RCB defeated the Super Giants on Monday by 18 runs.
