All-women flying squad to monitor Sohiong bypoll

SHILLONG, May 3: The Election department has deployed an all-women flying squad in poll-bound Sohiong to check any violation of norms by women.
CEO Frederick R Kharkongor, on Wednesday, said that out of the three nakas installed in the constituency, one will be manned by the all-women flying squad, which comprises women police personnel and a lady FDT/SST officer.
He said that the idea was mooted to provide gender balance and also to check any violation of electoral norms by women. The squad has also been tasked to ensure that no locally-made liquor be used to induce voters.
