Shillong, May 5: A significant meeting of opposition leaders is expected to take place in Patna in the third week of May after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee suggested to her Bihar counterpart Nitish Kumar that an opposition party meeting be held.

After the Karnataka assembly elections are over, the meeting is anticipated to take place either on May 17 or May 18.

Following a meeting between chairman of the Bihar Legislative Council and JD(U) leader Devesh Chandra Thakur with Sharad Pawar and Uddhav Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday in Mumbai, both are believed to have given their approval to attend the meeting in Patna.

After meeting with them last month to forge opposition unity ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Nitish Kumar is also expected to meet with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal or his representative, and Left leaders Sitaram Yechury and D Raja.

Nitish Kumar is expected to see the chief minister of Jharkhand and Odisha who will also likely attend the opposition parties’ summit in Patna.
