HC disposes of PIL on road revamp

SHILLONG, May 5: The High Court of Meghalaya on Friday disposed of a PIL after it was submitted on behalf of the state government that administrative sanction has been issued for the construction of a road between Jakopgre and Kakwa Duragre.
A letter dated March 29, 2023, issued by the Public Works Department (PWD) to the Chief Engineer, PWD (Roads) was produced in the court.
The letter indicated that administrative approval and sanction of an amount of Rs. 6.63 crore has been made for construction, including metalling and blacktopping, of a road from Jakopgre to Kakwa Duragre. “In such view of the matter and since it is submitted by Additional Advocate-General that the work order should be issued as expeditiously as possible, the present public interest litigation is closed,” the Court said, while hoping that the road would be in place within a reasonable time, hopefully by the end of the calendar year.
