SHILLONG, May 8: Senior BJP leader and Cabinet Minister AL Hek on Monday admitted to the growing “friction” between him and party’s state president Ernest Mawrie over the issue of election of the new BJP chief in Meghalaya.
In a delayed reaction to a recent statement by Mawrie that a show cause notice would be served on Hek for demanding a change of guard in the state, the latter said besides being a minister he is also a BJP leader and shoulders equal responsibility for the welfare and progress of the party.
He said the show cause threat is nothing but a routine matter that is initiated against anyone for talking against the party. He was, however, quick to add that he had only spoken about the welfare of the party.
Hek also reiterated that he would be willing to take up the responsibility of the Meghalaya BJP if the central leadership wished so.
“BJP is a political party and our job is to do good politics and work for the people and the state. We are together all the time when it comes to discussions on the progress of the party,” he added.
