SHILLONG, May 24: The Khasi Jaintia Presbyterian Synod Sepngi (KJPSS), which is the sponsoring body of the KJP Girls’ Higher Secondary School, has assured parents that it will take all possible steps along with the school authorities to ensure early resumption of classes.
The KJPSS on Wednesday held its executive committee meeting to express concern over the May 21 incident of fire which destroyed much of the 131-year-old school at the Mission Compound. The upper primary section and secondary section from classes 6 to 10 apart from the offices of the principal and vice-principal were affected by the fire.
“This incident has really affected the students. Many important documents and precious belongings of the school were lost in the inferno,” KJPSS moderator, Rev WP Marbaniang said.
Stating that it is one of the oldest schools in the state and the country, Rev Marbaniang said it has produced many eminent women personalities who have made enormous contributions to the society in Meghalaya and various other places.
He expressed gratitude to the principal, vice principal and teaching and non-teaching staff for working tirelessly when the school is facing this crisis. He appreciated the Dorbar Shnong Mission Compound and its Executive Members for providing temporary shelter to the boarders at the community hall.
Rev Marbaniang thanked Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, North Shillong MLA Adelbert Nongrum, Rajya Sabha member WR Kharlukhi and other political leaders for coming forward to support the school.
