RESUBELPARA, June 3: Minds Sanctuary or Music Academy was on Friday inaugurated by local MLA Marthon J Sangma at Dilma A.pal, Mendipathar, in Resubelpara.
Minds Sanctuary, as the name goes, is aimed to provide comfort to all those in need of good spirits through musical experiences along with learning of music as the main form of instruction.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Marthon said the Minds Sanctuary will be an asset for the people of the area, including the young and old, and would serve as an academy for nurturing the interest of music enthusiasts as well as provide a platform for them to take music to a professional level.
Arguing that there are many musically talented people who, due to the lack of platform, are coerced into getting their skills wasted, Marthon expressed hope that with the academy up and running, the talents would be identified, groomed and given perspective.
Marthon further sought coordination from the gathering for the effectiveness of the academy while assuring maximum support from his side.
West Garo Hills Additional Deputy Commissioner Dolrich BG Momin, who was the guest of honour, highlighted the various professional aspects of music, and motivated the youths to take the opportunity and make the best use of the academy.
“Minds Sanctuary is an opportunity for the local people to equip themselves with the art of music,” Momin said.
Director of Minds Sanctuary, Tengrang R Sangma, expressed gratitude to the people of the locality for supporting the need for the academy.
He said the aim of the academy was to provide a base and hone the skills of the individuals interested in music.
Acknowledging that the youths have a lot of potential in various forms of music, Tengrang said that Minds Sanctuary would educate and steer the area towards further growth and development.
He also informed that the academy is affiliated to Trinity College of Music, London, and examination would be conducted by the same.
“Enrolment under the academy has no age bar; anyone with interest in music can join it,” the director added.
He also informed that a workshop on account of World Music Day, which is celebrated on June 21 every year, will also be organised.
