SHILLONG, June 6: The State cabinet approved the proposal to create a Directorate of Forensic Sciences after a sitting on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said, “…there is a forensic science cell that works but it works under the police headquarters (PHQ)… this particular department or directorate had to be created. It is going to be independent of the PHQ and will come straight under the Home department,” he added.
He said the decision has been made and the manpower and the necessary system are in place.
“It is only the administrative decision to have a separate Directorate of Forensic Sciences. Of course we have also decided that we will further strengthen the Forensic department by ensuring that more investments are made in different equipments,” he said.
The Cabinet also approved Chief Ministers’ Solar Mission, amended the rules of the executive business to include the planning investment promotion and sustainable department and gave its nod to the proposal to include the secretary of the Meghalaya State Public service delivery commission in the list of the heads of department.
Talking about the solar mission, Sangma said, “The idea and purpose is really to have a sustainable green energy as part of our energy mix”.  He exuded confidence that the mission will add to the energy mix. “…this will be a decentralised model… we expect in the next month we will be able to roll out the CM Solar Mission,” he added.
He also informed that amendment to the Rules of Executive Business was done to include the planning investment promotion and sustainable department.
