West Khasi Hills District Magistrate LSN Dykes has prohibited one and all from poisoning/destroying rivers, fishes and aquatic life in the rivers of Wahblei and Khusang under Mawshynrut Block, West Khasi Hills. The order has been issued in view of the reports of people resorting to using poisonous substances, chemicals and explosives for catching fish in the aforesaid water bodies.
South West Khasi Hills District Magistrate T. Lyngwa has indefinitely restricted movement of people within 100 metres from the Indo-Bangla Border from 7 pm to 6 am every day. According to a statement here, the curb has been necessitated in view of apprehensions over movements of international gangs, criminals, smugglers along the international border. “Such anti-social elements are likely to resort to smuggling of cattle/narcotic/drugs/ liquor etc. and such apprehension of serious breach of peace may harm the citizens, including law enforcement agencies,” the DC said.

A three-day online-offline State Level Yogasana Judge’s Training programme 2023-24 on Thursday got under way at all the district headquarters of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo Hills. According to a statement here, the programme, organised by the Meghalaya Yogasana Sports Association, is being attended by resource persons from across India, who will enrich the sessions with their valuable topics and suggestions. “Selected judges will explore career opportunities at state, national and international level of Yogasana Championships,” the statement said.

A curtain-raiser for International Day of Yoga was on Wednesday organised by the North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Homoeopathy (NEIAH), Shillong, in collaboration with Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, Ministry of Ayush. According to a statement here, a one-hour yoga session, thematised on ‘yoga for mental well-being’ was also organised, and was participated by 500 people.

The Executive Engineer PWD (Roads), Shangpung Division, has informed that the temporary repair of bridge NO. 10/1 on Myntang River on Laskein Barato Road under Laskein C&RD Block will be carried out on Saturday from 10 am till 5 pm. In view of the repair works, the bridge will be temporarily closed and vehicles will be barred from plying there.
