SHILLONG, June 10: Meghalaya is very likely to receive moderate to very heavy rainfall in the next five days, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
Issuing a warning, the IMD said thunderstorm and lightning are very likely to occur at isolated places over Meghalaya as well as Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura accompanied with heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas.
The IMD recorded 1.8 mm of rainfall in the state on Saturday.
It may also be mentioned that the state is experiencing 8-10 hours of load-shedding and the Umiam Dam has also been on the brink of closure with the water level drastically plummeting.
Now, with the rains in sight, situation is expected to improve for the better vis-à-vis the power scenario.
According to the IMD, the Southwest monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of central Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Kerala, some parts of Karnataka, some more parts of southwest Bay of Bengal, entire parts of east central Bay of Bengal, most parts of northeast Bay of Bengal, some parts of northwest Bay of Bengal and most parts of north-eastern states today.
It further stated that conditions are favourable for further advancement of Southwest monsoon into some more parts of central Arabian Sea, few other parts of the country, parts of north-eastern states and some parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during next 48 hours.
The expected advance of South West Monsoon over some parts of Northeast India will likely bring along with it favourable conditions during the next five days in Meghalaya and few other north-eastern states, which will experience moderate to heavy rains in the coming days.
