SHILLONG, June 12: The East Khasi Hills district administration on Monday claimed that the government has identified the state from where formalin-injected fish was being supplied.
East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Rosetta Mary Kurbah refused to reveal the name of the state but made it clear that, henceforth, all varieties of fish coming into the state would be tested before they are sold in the markets.
According to the DC, after the ban is lifted, the concerned department will do rigorous testing of the fish consignment.
Kurbah said the government is particularly concerned about the Rohu fish which is consumed by the maximum number of people.
The government recently imposed ban on the sale of imported fish for 15 days after authorities found formalin in some samples that were tested.
