Shillong, June 16: A mob on Thursday night set fire to the residence of Union Minister of State for External Affairs, RK Ranjan Singh, located at Kongba in Imphal.
This incident occurred just a day after Minister Nemcha Kipgen’s residence in Imphal was also set ablaze on June 15.
MEA RK Ranjan Singh, speaking to the media, stated, “I am currently in Kerala for official work. Thankfully, nobody was injured last night at my Imphal home. The miscreants came with petrol bombs, and the ground floor and first floor of my house have been damaged.”
Around 11 pm on Thursday, a crowd forcefully entered Minister Ranjan Singh’s residence and attempted to set his property on fire. The outnumbered house guards stationed at the residential gate were unable to prevent the mob from gaining entry.
To control the situation, the Imphal East police intervened and deployed tear gas shells, dispersing the gathering near RK Ranjan Singh’s residence. It is important to note that the minister and his family were not present in the house at the time of the incident.
These incidents of violence targeting the residences of government officials are a cause for concern and require swift action by the authorities. The safety and security of public representatives and their property must be ensured to maintain law and order in the region. The investigations into these incidents should be conducted diligently to identify the culprits responsible for the attacks.
