Shillong, June 21: Meta-owned Instagram is introducing the capability to download Reels from public accounts to the camera roll, starting with users in the United States.
During a broadcast on Wednesday, Instagram head Adam Mosseri shared the news, stating, “In the US, we’re rolling out the ability to download Reels shared by public accounts to your camera roll. Just tap the Share icon on a Reel you love and select Download.”
However, Mosseri clarified that Reels shared by private accounts cannot be downloaded, and public accounts have the option to disable the ability for others to download their Reels in their Account Settings.
Mosseri did not specify whether downloaded Reels would include a watermark. However, a picture shared by him suggests that the downloaded video will display the account name of the user who posted it and the company’s logo.
Last month, Instagram introduced new editing updates for Reels to enhance creators’ creative possibilities. These updates include features like Split, Speed, and Replace.
In other news, Meta recently announced the global rollout of broadcast channels on Instagram, accompanied by a new ‘Collaborators’ feature. This feature allows creators to invite other creators or fans to participate in their broadcast channel.
