NONGSTOIN, June 28: Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) secretary Golden Nonglong has decided to quit the grand-old party as he found that his and the party’s ideologies did not align.
In a press conference here, Nonglong spoke about the meeting of the party at Congress Bhawan in Shillong on June 21 stating that the decision of the leadership did not align with his aspirations and beliefs.
Primarily, Nonglong vehemently opposed the move of Congress MDCs to support the NPP in KHADC which led to the toppling of the UDP-led Executive Committee in the Council. He recalled that before the 2023 general elections, five Congress MLAs extended support to the NPP-led government and were suspended from the party for conducting anti-party activities.
“We cannot make the rules and break the same rules by ourselves. This is against the norms and ethics of the party. In fact, same yardsticks need to be applied,” Nonglong said.
