SHILLONG, June 30: The Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW) on Friday wrote to the Police department seeking a status report on the investigation into the alleged murder of 30-year-old pregnant woman, Steffanie Lyngdoh Nonglait by her husband Trophius Nongbri on the evening of June 14.
“We have also asked the police to provide us with the post-mortem report,” member of the commission, Felicita L Majaw told The Shillong Times.
Majaw said the commission has been working with the family members on the case and police have been asked to speed up their investigation.
Meanwhile, a senior police official said they are yet to receive the post-mortem report. The official also said that the accused is in judicial custody.
It may be recalled that police had made the arrest following an FIR lodged by the victim’s sister, Amanda Lyngdoh Nonglait at Mawlai police station.
In her FIR, Amanda had claimed that her brother-in-law had murdered his wife. The victim was two months’ pregnant at the time of her murder.
