SHILLONG, July 11: A delegation of the North Goa Zila Panchayat (NGZP) on Tuesday visited KHADC to understand the functioning of the autonomous council. The delegation, led by its president Siddesh Shripad Naik and its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Ajay Guade, held an interaction with the members of the Executive Committee of the KHADC headed by the Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pyniaid Sing Syiem.
While speaking to reporters, Naik said that the basic objective of visiting the council was to study the local governance model of the respective state or districts, while implement new ideas in their governance process.
NGZP CEO Ajay Guade, on the other hand, said that they have a lot to learn from Meghalaya. He pointed out that there are stark differences in the functioning of the Zila Parishad in Goa and the ADCs in Meghalaya. “We have Panchayat Act. But the district council is empowered by the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution,” he said.
The KHADC CEM, after the interaction, said that the Council shared with the visitors the customary practices and tradition of the Khasi community. Syiem said that the interaction was also fruitful for the KHADC, which learned about the functioning of the Zila Parishad in Goa.
