Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2023 announces nominations for 14th edition

Shillong, July 14: The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) has revealed the nominations for its 14th edition, featuring acclaimed titles like ‘Darlings,’ ‘Kantara,’ ‘Pathaan,’ and ‘Bhediya,’ among others.

Renowned Australian filmmaker Bruce Beresford, an Oscar winner known for directing films like ‘Driving Miss Daisy’ and ‘The Contract,’ joins the festival’s jury panel as a new addition.

After careful consideration of numerous films and series from Indian cinema, the IFFM advisory committee finalized the nominations for works released between June 1, 2022, and May 31, 2023.

Leading the film categories, including Best Film, Best Actor, and Best Actress, are notable productions such as ‘Darlings,’ ‘Monica O My Darling,’ ‘Ponniyin Selvan,’ and ‘Kantara.’

In the OTT category, series like ‘Trial By Fire,’ ‘Jubilee,’ and ‘Delhi Crime Season 2’ have received the highest number of nominations. The winners of the prestigious IFFM 2023 Awards will be announced during the festival’s annual gala night on August 11, 2023, hosted at Melbourne’s Hamer Hall.

The complete list of nominees includes films like ‘Bhediya,’ ‘Brahmastra,’ ‘Darlings,’ ‘Jogi,’ ‘Kantara,’ ‘Monica, O My Darling,’ ‘Pathaan,’ ‘Ponniyin Selvan 1 and 2,’ and ‘Sita Ramam’ in the Best Film category.

In the Best Indie Film category, nominations include ‘Gulmohar,’ ‘Joram,’ ‘Pine Cone,’ and ‘Zwigato,’ among others.

The Best Director nominees comprise Anant Mahadevan, Anurag Kashyap, Ashish Avinash Bende, Devashish Makhija, Don Palathara, Kanu Behl, Mani Ratnam, Nandita Das, Prthivi Konanur, Siddharth Anand, Rima Das, and Vasan Bala.

The Best Actor (Male) category features Dulquer Salmaan, Kapil Sharma, Manoj Bajpayee, Mohit Agarwal, Paresh Rawal, Rajkummar Rao, Rishab Shetty, Shah Rukh Khan, Vijay Varma, and Vikram.

For the Best Actor (Female), nominations include Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Akshatha Pandavapura, Alia Bhatt, Bhumi Pednekar, Kajol, Mrunal Thakur, Neena Gupta, Rani Mukherjee, Sai Pallavi, and Sanya Malhotra.

The Best Series category includes titles like ‘Dahaad,’ ‘Delhi Crime Season 2,’ ‘Farzi,’ ‘Jubilee,’ ‘SHE Season 2,’ ‘Suzhal: The Vortex,’ ‘The Broken News,’ and ‘Trial By Fire.’

Nominated actors in the Best Actor (Male) – Series category include Abhay Deol, Abhishek Bachchan, Aparshakti, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Shahid Kapoor, Sidhant Gupta, Vijay Sethupathi, and Vijay Varma.
