SHILLONG, July 23: Cabinet Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Sunday expressed shock over the atrocities against women in strife-torn Manipur and slammed the state government there for inaction.
Lyngdoh told The Shillong Times that the recent video of two women being paraded naked and sexually molested is shameful. “I join hands with others in condemning the attack on the women there and demand international and national women’s bodies to initiate immediate action against perpetrators of such heinous crimes,” she said.
Asked if President Rule’s should be invoked in Manipur, she said, “It is a violation of a state’s democratic functioning. However, the chief minister of Manipur must be held responsible for the inaction of law. These atrocities demand immediate arrest and subsequent legal action against culprits,” she added.
