SHILLONG, July 24: The KSU South Central Circle has called for a 24-hour blockade of National Highway 44 under Pynursla civil subdivision to pressurise the state government to repair the dilapidated Shillong-Dawki highway. The road blockade will be effective from 5 am of August 1.
The decision was taken at a meeting held at Pynursla on Monday.
KSU South Central assistant secretary, Vorrozislov Sohkhlet said they waited patiently for the government to repair the road which has been in shambles for three years.
Lives have been lost and there is frequent breakdown of vehicles due to which people have to suffer especially during health emergencies, he said.
The road blockade call has been endorsed by Khasi-Jaintia Truck Drivers’ and Owners’ Union, Association of All India Tourists Permit of Pynursla, Pynursla Sumo, Taxi, Maxi Owners’ Association, HNYF, FKJGP and Pynursla Taxi Association.
