SHILLONG, July 25: The KHADC has decided to inaugurate the Khasi Traditional Medicine Institute at Lum Sohpetbneng.
Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, KHADC Chief Executive Member Pyniaid Sing Syiem said that the Council will float an Expression of Interests (EOIs) to rope in institutes specialised in running centres on herbal treatment. “We do not have such expertise to run such a centre,” Syiem said.
He, however, said that they will need to complete the laying of the pipes for water connection and construction of the chowkidar quarters before inaugurating the institute.
The KHADC CEM added that Council is also planning to set up a laboratory at the institute to help in the bottling and packaging of the traditional medicines made by medical practitioners, who will also treat patients in the institute.
It may be mentioned that the institute is being built at an overall cost of Rs 5.77 crore, sanctioned by the Centre.
The KHADC will also reconstitute the Khasi Traditional Medicine Commission under his chairmanship.
Meanwhile, the executive committee of the KHADC has decided to implement the e-gram portal swaraj portal as per the recommendations of the 15th Finance Commission.
According to him, the Council will need to upload the proposals of the schemes and Utilisation Certificates (UCs) to the portal.
“The purpose of this initiative was to streamline the whole system and to ensure there is no delay in implementation of the schemes and submission of proposals and UCs as per the stipulated deadline,” the KHADC CEM said.
He further stated that presently, there is a delay in submitting UCs since the whole exercise is done manually.
