3 get life sentence in 32-yr-old murder case

SHILLONG, Aug 8: Three out of five persons were convicted by a Court of Sessions Judge, West Jaintia Hills, for a murder which was perpetrated over three decades ago.
An FIR was registered on November 16 of 1991 with Ummulong Beat House, Jowai, by Kaia Muruh, the brother of the deceased, Sada Muruh, alleging that five persons — Tngen Muruh, Lowit Muruh, She Muruh, Tne Muruh and Kamai Muruh — from Lumkhudung village murdered his sister at Lumkhudung village on November 16, 1991.
Accordingly, a case was registered at Jowai police station, and it was taken up for investigation by Sub-Inspector QE Pala.
The Investigating Officer subsequently filed a charge sheet against all the five accused.
Unfortunately, Pala died on November 11 last year.
On the other hand, two accused persons Kamai Muruh and Lowit Muruh reportedly died during the course of trial. The trial further proceeded against the remaining three accused — Tngen Muruh, She Muruh and Tne Muruh.
On August 4, 2023, the Court of Sessions Judge, West Jaintia Hills, on appreciation of evidences, found the three accused guilty and convicted them for an offence of murder amounting to culpable homicide. Accordingly, the three were sentenced to life imprisonment.
