SHILLONG, Aug 8: The search and select committee is likely to recommend the names of the chairperson and other members of the Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW) within two weeks.
Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh on Tuesday said that the committee will report back in a fortnight.
“We will move forward to form the new body once the committee makes its recommendations,” Lyngdoh said.
In the wake of the ‘unceremonious’ removal of the former chairperson of the MSCW, the minister articulated that the committee will ensure that the new women’s commission will not comprise political appointees.
“We will ensure that there is no politicisation of the selection process,” he stated.
It may be mentioned that Phidalia Toi had quit recently after there was a move to remove her.
The search and select committee was formed with Commissioner and Secretary, Social Welfare department, as its chairperson.
The official members were Secretary in-charge Personnel and AR department, Director of Social Welfare (member secretary), Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG CID), and Director of Health Services.
Principal of Lady Keane College, Shillong, principal of Women’s College, Shillong, and head of the department of Social Work, MLCU, were made the non-official members of the committee.
Earlier, the Social Welfare minister had said that the search committee has been notified in a very transparent manner by including eminent educationists as its members.
