Shillong, August 13: The iPhone 14’s groundbreaking Emergency SOS via Satellite feature recently played a crucial role in saving a family trapped by a wildfire on Maui, Hawaii.
A Twitter user named Michael Miraflor shared a remarkable story of how the Emergency SOS feature came to the rescue. Five individuals, relatives of his brother’s girlfriend, found themselves surrounded by wildfire in a vehicle on Maui with no cell service available. Utilizing Apple’s Emergency SOS, they managed to contact first responders, effectively saving their lives.
As per IANS, the text thread shared by Miraflor showcased the swift and coordinated efforts of local fire departments and dispatchers. The family’s location, their dire circumstances, and blocked escape routes were communicated to responders. Within just 30 minutes, firefighters reached the family at the Outlets of Maui shopping mall in Lahaina and successfully evacuated them.
This isn’t the first instance where the iPhone 14’s Emergency SOS via Satellite feature proved its worth. In a previous incident, the feature was instrumental in rescuing two lost tourists in the Italian Apennine Mountains. The hikers, who were without cellphone signal, managed to call for help through satellite text messages, emphasizing the life-saving potential of this innovative technology
