SHILLONG, Aug 17: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has assured the KHADC of providing funds to allow the council to conduct research work on as many as 17 areas pertaining to the tradition, culture, customs and practices of the Khasi community.
Informing this here on Thursday, KHADC CEM Pyniaid Sing Syiem said the CM’s assurance came during their meeting where the council had sought his advice and support for the research initiative.
“The state government will provide funding to students who will be selected to do the research work,” Syiem said.
The council is ready to provide scholarships to students who are willing to take up the research work, Syiem said while adding that the matter will be tackled by the EM in charge of Education.
Syiem said the Khasi community has a rich tradition, culture, customs and practices but there is a lack of documentation; hence the present generation and people from outside the state do not have enough knowledge on the richness of the community.
Through the scholarships, the district council will encourage the students and scholars to conduct research and come out will a full copy or documentation which will be kept in the council’s library for the people to learn about the richness of the Khasi community.
