SHILLONG, Aug 24: A ‘first-of-its-kind’ dashboard launched on Thursday will monitor the retail prices of as many as 22 essential commodities in the state.
The dashboard, which is a Monitoring Information System, was launched by Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister, Comingone Ymbon, at a programme held in Main Secretariat Building, Shillong.
It is part of the partnership between the Department of Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, and the United Nations’ World Food Programme (WFP), India.
As part of the technical expertise provided by the World Food Programme (WFP), India, the department through the dashboard, can process the data that is captured by the districts regarding the daily prices of 22 essential commodities in the open market regularly.
“The dashboard offers a dynamic range of data visibility capturing the variations in retail prices (increase/decrease/No-change) in Map and table view on a daily and weekly basis making it simple and easy for the viewers to interpret information and be updated on the latest price trends,” a statement issued here said.
In an era where technology is evolving at a faster pace, this dashboard is expected to help in making decisions based on consistent data being fed from the districts which would help identify the price trend to take course correction.
