Union Minister visits NGH to review central schemes

Tura, August 25: Union Minister of state for Road Transport, highways & civil aviation, Gen VK Singh (Retd.) visited Resubelpara in North Garo Hills on Thursday wherein he reviewed various central sponsored schemes and interacted with District Administration and heads of various line departments at Multi Purpose Cooperative Society Hall, Mendipathar.

The Minister who was the chief guest of the event in his address said that the region as a whole has witnessed many transformation in terms of development indicating that the central government is giving attention to the state.

He pointed out that for any development it requires that the area has good accessibility, connectivity, improved infrastructures in road, healthcare services, educational institutions; basic amenities such as water, electricity, etc; for which the government, the implementing agencies and all stakeholders must work in inclusive mode for effective implementation of government’s schemes and projects.

VK Singh further implored upon the officials to thrive for innovative solutions in tackling challenges during the process of projects implementation.

MLAs of North Garo Hills, Marthon Sangma, Mendipathar constituency and Rupert Momin, Kharkutta constituency also took part in the programme where they flagged before the minister, grievances and backlogs pertaining to various infrastructures in the district.

They also appealed to the minister to expedite operationalization of air connectivity at Baljek Airport situated at Jengjal – Tura stretch which is yet to be functional since its inception in 2008.

Deputy Commissioner, Mithali Chandra gave an overview of the district profile while also highlighted various impediments faced by the district in the course of bringing development.

It was informed during the programme that Resubelpara C& RD block has been chosen as one among the aspirational blocks in the state which aimed at improving performances in various parameters.

The focused schemes during the review meeting were PMAY-G, MNREGA, SKILLS Meghalaya, PMGSY, NHIDCL, ICDS, JJM, NRLM, LDM (Financial Inclusion), Health , Education, Agriculture and Water Resources schemes.

Later, the Minister also visited Mendipathar PHC, Dilma A.pal Higher Secondary School and Jamgao Anganwadi, Gajingpara.
