Garo Hills-based NGO donates food to ICPS

Baghmara, Sep 1: Apparent lack of funds in the Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) has prompted a local organisation in Garo Hills to donate food and other essential items to the children on Friday.
ICPS programme is a centrally sponsored scheme run by the social welfare department in the state. It is design to reach out to children who are in need of care and protection. “We have been informed from sources that the department has not been getting funds since the past four months to run the welfare programme. This has really concerned us and we decided that we would try to change the situation,” Niksamso Garo Community Organisation president Arjun S Marak said.
The organisation further appealed to the state government to look into the concerns of the people and do the needful for the sake of children involved in the programme all of whom have none to care for them.
Headmen’s body meets doctors of Panaliar childcare clinic

Jowai, Sep 1: The Synjuk Waheh Chnong Jowai (SWCJ), while paying heed to the public grievances regarding inadequate management and facilities in Maternal & Child Health, Panaliar Jowai met Medical Superintendent (MS) Dr. E. War along with other doctors to discuss the lacuna in health car in that particular medical centre.
Dr. E. War himself has admitted that several problems existing in the clinic since its launch which has been ailing due to dearth of required number of doctors, nurses and grade IV staff.
The superintendent reiterated that a fresh lot of workforce, diagnostic machines and the allied tools have to be introduced for the smooth and systematic functioning of the clinic. Besides the issues of cleanliness and personal hygiene, the Synjuk urges everyone to abide by the hospital rules.
Millet recipe contest held

TURA, Sep 1: The KVK South Garo Hills organised a millet recipe contest as part of celebration of International Year of Millets, 2023 at Nengkhong, in South Garo Hills on Friday.
The event witnessed a participation of 50 women farmers from the village. An array of different local millet-based recipes prepared by the participants was displayed and the best recipes were rewarded with prizes.
The programme was attended by special guests from South Garo Hills namely Chongtham Khelchandra, DDM, NABARD, Peter Marak, JRDO, Baghmara C&RD Block and Sengsrang Marak, BPM, MSRLS, Baghmara.
Synod College bags top prize in Science exhibition

SHILLONG, Sep 1: Various colleges from in and around Shillong participated in the inter-college science exhibition competition on the theme ‘Waste Management and its Mitigation’ at St. Mary’s College, here on Friday. Synod College has been adjudged the winner followed by Sankardev College as first runners-up and St. Mary’s College the second runners up in the competition organised by the Department of Chemistry and NSS unit, St. Mary’s College.
Meri Mati Mera Desh campaign

Shillong, Sep 1: To celebrate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahostav to commemorate 75 years of Independence, state BJP president Ernest Mawrie inaugurated “Meri Mati-Mera Desh” campaign at Laitkor, Lumheh, Nongkrem Mandal, on Friday.
He was accompanied by state committee, state mahila morcha, and state yuva Morcha team of BJP and Shillong city district president. As a part of the campaign soil will be collected from different villages of the blocks, from all the districts across Meghalaya into the Amrit Kalash which will then be taken New-Delhi to be placed in the Amrit Vatika.
