TURA, Sep 1: Accusing the A’chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) of being responsible for the Tura mayhem on July 24, the husband of BJP Mahila Morcha leader Rakhi K Sangma who was arrested in connection with the mob violence at the Mini Secretariat in Tura, has petitioned DGP Lajja Ram Bishnoi seeking the arrest of leaders of the organisation.
In his petition to the DGP, Balwan M Sangma named Laben Ch Marak, Bernitha Marak, Balkarin Marak, Greneth M Sangma and a few others as those who should be held accountable for instigating the public to participate in the protest that ultimately resulted in the violence.
Earlier, Sangma had filed an FIR against the leaders demanding that they too be arrested. However, with police still to act upon the complaint, Sangma was compelled to file the fresh petition to the DGP.
Sangma in his petition pointed out that while the court had rejected the anticipatory bail plea of the main leaders – Laben Marak, Bernitha Marak and Balkarin Marak on August 11, it was surprising that even after a month police had not arrested the leaders.
According to Sangma, it was unfortunate that only the people who went to support the leaders were arrested but the main organizers of the hunger strike who invited the public to support were let off despite the rejection of their bail plea.
Sangma also maintained that his wife was merely a victim of circumstance as she had only gone to the site of the incident after the leaders invited her and sought her support.
