Nongpoh, Sep 1: In a bid to enhance road safety and ensure compliance with transportation regulations, the office of the Ri-Bhoi District Transport Officer (DTO) has issued a press release announcing a series of surprise checking of vehicle across the district.
According to the statement, the surprise checking are targeted to identifying and addressing various violations, including vehicles operating without valid documents, private vehicles engaged in commercial activities, local taxis operating without proper permits and those exceeding their authorised jurisdiction without the requisite special permit. Additionally, drivers without seatbelts and two-wheeler riders without helmets will also be under scrutiny.
The initiative aims to create safer road conditions for all residents and commuters in the district, promoting responsible and lawful transportation practices, it said.
It will serve as a deterrent to those who flout the rules and put public safety at risk.
The checking operations will be carried out at various locations across Ri-Bhoi district, and strict actions will be taken against any violators in accordance with the provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act.
The district transport office also calls on all vehicle owners, operators, and drivers to ensure they have the necessary documents and adhere to safety regulations while on the road.
The initiative aims to foster a culture of compliance which in turn ultimately contributes to safer and more secure transportation, the statement said.
