SHILLONG, Sep 3: The BJP is undecided on whether it will contest the two seats in the Lok Sabha elections or forge an alliance with any of its partners in the MDA conglomerate.
A senior BJP leader on Sunday said the party has not yet held any discussion on the issues of selecting candidates and formulating strategies for the polls. He said all of these will be decided by the BJP’s central leadership and so far, no communication has been made in this regard.
The state BJP is working on strengthening its position as directed by its central leaders, the party leader said.
State BJP president Ernest Mawrie said the decision to field candidates will be taken by the party’s central election committee. He said the state unit has been instructed to strengthen the party’s base in both Parliamentary seats.
On BJP leader HM Shangpliang’s purported move to contest the polls on NPP’s ticket, Mawrie said there is no proof about it except media reports. He said the party has been trying to get in touch with Shangpliang for some time but has not been successful so far.
Recently, BJP leader and Cabinet Minister AL Hek stated that he had met Shangpliang and the latter did not mention anything about leaving the party.
Deputy Chief Minister and senior NPP leader, Sniawbhalang Dhar had spoken about Shangpliang’s move to contest the polls on the NPP’s ticket.
