Tura, Sept 5: The a’chik Organization for Social Welfare (AOSW) on Tuesday expressed concern over the stone quarry being operated at Budugre, Chokpot in South Garo Hills and has condemned the rampant destruction of the flora and fauna due to the activity, as well as the negative effects it would have on the Dareng river below.

The organization also questioned why concerned departments like the Forest and Wildlife are not putting a stop to the activity or whether the owner of the quarry has necessary papers or a permit for the activity.

Pointing out that South Garo Hills is very rich in bio-diversity which should be preserved, the organization urged the concerned departments and the administration to take serious note of the issue to prevent further destruction of the environment in the area.
