Tura, Sept 5: Residents of Rajabala, led by their MLA, Dr Mizanur Kazi today met with officials of the West Garo Hills (WGH) deputy commissioner, Jagdish Chelani and officials of the C&RD Blocks of Selsella and Demdema to iron out issues of job card holders of the area.
The meeting was called following a request by the MLA for a hearing of the grievances being faced by the local public.
The residents as well as the MLA raised issues of the non release of funds for various VECs under the two Blocks which comprise most of the constituency. They also raised questions on the functioning of the Block with many complaints being made. The DC, upon hearing the grievances promised to look into the matters. He sought 30 days to ensure things were back on track.
One of the principal issues of the residents was what they called the unconstitutional breaking up of VEC members to make way for new VEC members without any form of intimation being provided to the earlier members.
Many of those present in the meeting stated that despite their works already being completed two years ago, they were still to receive payments for it. Others added that new work orders, which required 15 days to be passed, were taking months despite the villagers approaching their respective C&RD Block offices through their VEC representatives.
Most VEC representatives of the constituency were present during the meeting held at the Circuit House in Tura today.
“There were no elections held to many VECs and this needs to be rectified. The BDOs need to ensure that the people being given responsibility for getting job card work are the ones that the people have chosen democratically,” said local MLA, Mizanur after the program.
He further mooted that all VECs, at least under his constituency need to have elected members and not ones selected either through political power or otherwise.
