Fraudster arrested for duping people gets bail

SHILLONG, Sep 9: Different Magisterial Courts has granted bail to one person accused for posing as an IB officer of the Ministry of Home Affairs as well as officer of the Police Special Branch and for duping people on the pretext of giving them jobs.
It may be mention that the accused Richard Tiplang Swer was arrested in May this year.
Counsel of the accused, Advocate M Haque said that the court granted him bail in all the five cases.
The case is being heard in five different magisterial Courts.
“The last bail was given on medical ground, as he was suffering from many ailments, and required specialised treatments since Government Designated Hospitals where UTPs are admitted provide good basic treatment and not specialised treatment”.
He further said that “however serious the offence may be, health condition of an accused is paramount, and is keenly watched by the judiciary”.
Swer was arrested following complaints received by city police that Swer claiming to be an IB Officer of the Ministry of Home Affairs offered to provide jobs in the Secretariat, Shillong through MPSC and DSC and told the complainant to collect an amount from all the persons interested according to their qualifications.
Another FIR was received at Lumdiengjri PS on May 22 where the same person impersonated himself as an officer of the Meghalaya Police Special Branch and told the complainant that he can provide jobs in the Police Department under the condition that the applicants pays an amount of rupees one lakh for non-matriculate and Rs 50,000 for matriculate.
The accused had duped 38 job seekers of Rs 80 lakhs.
