Make Mawshynrut subdivision fully functional, FKJGP tells WKH DC
NONGSTOIN, Sep 13: The FKJGP on Wednesday met West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Garod LSN Dykes and submitted a memorandum urging the DC to make Mawshynrut Civil Sub Division fully functional. Speaking to media persons after the meeting, FKJGP general secretary Eveningstar Marthong said it has been seven years since the inauguration of the civil subdivision, but most of the important departments like Election, Supply, Treasury etc., continue to be managed by the DC’s office at Nongstoin. Marthong also said that the newly inaugurated Shallang C&RD Block, which was inaugurated in 2022, is yet to be made fully function. “This causes the people of the area to face problems in dealing with schemes like MGNREGA and PMAY”. The DC responded to the FKJGP and told them that the process of making the civil subdivision and the C&RD Block functional is under way.
NH6 damage: Group slams negligence
JOWAI, Sep 13: The Meghalaya People United Front (MPUF), East Jaintia Hills, has denounced the local representatives and the district administration for their negligence with regard to the deplorable condition of the crucial National Highway (NH-6). Currently, vehicles can barely ply on the road where multiple potholes have developed. The road condition is as such that it results in frequent breakdown of vehicles and unpleasant journeys. On Wednesday, around 7 pm, a truck was seen stranded on the road at Khliehriat resulting in heavy blockade.
KSU lauds govt intervention
MAWKYRWAT, Sep 13: The Khasi Student’s Union (KSU) South West Khasi Hills District on Wednesday expressed its gratitude to the state government, especially Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh for listening to people’s grievances and addressing them. The KSU is elated over the government approving construction of two new Health Sub-Centres at Mawhiang and Jyllep villages under Mawsynram C&RD Block, East Khasi Hills. “We also expect that the government will speed up all the necessary process so that construction of the Sub-Centres will start as soon as possible for the benefit of the general public,” Nongrem said. The Union also urged upon the Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh to inspect all the Community Health Centers (CHCs) and Primary Health Centers (PHCs) in South West Khasi Hills and in Mawsynram Block of East Khasi Hills.
AHAM foils timber smuggling bid
TURA, Sep 13: Two vehicles involved in smuggling logs from Forest Reserves of Rongjeng, Songsak and Rongrenggre were on Wednesday night seized by the AHAM, East Zone and handed over to the district’s Forest Department. The seized vehicles include an Alto with registration number ML07 9770, belonging to one, Drill Ch Sangma from Williamnagar, Nengsila Gittim and a Bolero Pik Up AS 18AC 4160. Meanwhile, the organization in a message to the general public has requested them to report to them any such incidents of illegal timber smuggling in the future.
Awareness prog for meat vendors
TURA, Sep 13: The District Animal Monitoring Committee of South Garo Hills organised a one-day awareness programme for all the stakeholders and meat vendors at Baghmara Main Market area on Wednesday. The meeting was held to inform the general public, meat vendors and other stakeholders regarding the recent order passed by the High Court of Meghalaya restricting open display of animals carcasses in meat shops. During the programme Food Safety Officer, Baghmara, Kasanchi M Momin, DVO Dr HB Marak, Senior AH&V Officer Dr SRK Marak, ARO Planning CR Marak and others spoke to the gathering.
