NONGSTOIN, Sep 13: A wooden bridge in Tiehsaw Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills, succumbed to the weight of an overloaded dumper truck and gave way on Wednesday morning.
The truck was stuck on the bridge with one of its wheels jammed in the crack, which then caused traffic congestion.
The dumper truck, which was loaded with soil, belonged to a Jharkhand-based company called Spica. The company is said to have undertaken the ongoing construction work of the Nongstoin-Rambrai road. At the time of filing of the report, the company was working on removing the truck from the culvert and repairing the damage.
It may be noted that there are no alternative routes apart from the bridge.
