Shillong, September 17: Dr. Subrata Sarkar, a prominent doctor and influential Trinamool Congress leader in the Bangaon sub-division of West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, was apprehended on Sunday on charges of sexually harassing a woman.

IANS reported that as per local authorities, the 24-year-old woman filed a complaint at the Gaighata Police Station, alleging that during a medical examination in the doctor’s office, he took advantage of the situation and attempted to molest her on Saturday evening.

The victim managed to escape and promptly reported the incident to her family, who were shocked as Dr. Sarkar had been their family physician for some time.

Family members and neighbors gathered outside Dr. Sarkar’s office to protest, prompting the intervention of local police, who arrested him.
