SHILLONG, Sep 21: In a significant claim, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday said almost three lakh jobs have been created in the private sector in Meghalaya in the last 5 years.
Speaking during the inaugural programme of the CM Elevate here, Sangma also claimed that the GSDP of the state has improved in last few years.
Admitting that challenges remain, he expressed hope that entrepreneurs will become the driving force of the economy while the government’s role would be limited to creating policies.
The government has created over 40,000 self-help groups in the last 5 years with a total funding of Rs 500 crore and 20,000 farmers’ group with a funding of Rs 400 crore, he said.
Under the CM Elevate, the government will provide subsidy to 20,000 entrepreneurs with a funding of Rs 300 crore.
Earlier, Commissioner and Secretary Vijay Kumar said the programme will create an ecosystem for business besides developing entrepreneurship in the state and reducing financial stress through subsidies.
A total of 15 different schemes will be created through CM Elevate to add Rs 1,368 crore to the state’s economy besides providing 50,000 direct and indirect jobs.
People can start a business with as little as Rs 4,000 in capital and the government will provide subsidies ranging from 35% to 75% to support these endeavours.
