In his address on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the various activities being undertaken in the district during the Swachhta Hi Seva fortnight till the culmination on October 2, 2023 on the theme “Waste Free India”. Congratulating the villagers and community leaders of Sulguri A village for their overall performance, he said that it would encourage other villages to strive for the same level of commitment toward sanitation and waste management. He however, acknowledged that in many villages the communities themselves are responsible for maintaining cleanliness without banking on getting awards or such incentives and at the same time suggested that all villages should take up cleaning drives at least twice a week during the Swachhta Hi Seva campaign.

On waste management and garbage disposal, the Deputy Commissioner admitted that the DC’s office and other departmental offices have to struggle over garbage disposal and said that having a Municipal Board in the district would help in solving the crisis.
